May has quickly come around and so far this year I’ve been trying to make a little lifestyle change or two.
These days I’m loathe to make official ‘new year resolutions’ in January because I always feel so much pressure to stick to them which I never end up doing. Instead this year I just had a few minor things I wanted to try and achieve, and as we are now almost at the half way point in the year and a couple of them have managed to stick, I thought I’d have a little chat to you about them!
Starting off with the big’un – exercise. I am the worst at exercising. I’ve had several gym memberships in my time, all of which have lasted around 1 or 2 sessions before being put to the back of my mind. Pounding the pavements of Portsmouth while at uni seemed like a great alternative but it turns out me and my friend Tash are more ‘fair-weather’ joggers so that didn’t continue too long. Post-uni I gave Kayla Itsines Bikini Body Guide a whirl. Apparently I’m not one for solo-motivation for too long and without anyone to spur me on, the maximum I’ve lasted in a row of BBG is about 5 weeks.
This year I needed a change, and that change came in the form of Flip Fit. You know those big trampoline parks that have been popping up all over the UK? Well some of them have fitness classes and I am so proud to say that I have been once a week for 4 months, and for someone who has difficulty sticking to exercise that is an achievement! I think I have officially found my workout jam, I need classes to be motivated by the people around me. And next month there will be two classes a week so hopefully I will be upping my commitment even more! This may sound so little to anyone who regularly exercises multiple times a week but for me this is a huge accomplishment and I’m hoping in the rest of 2018 I get my butt moving 2 or 3 times a week at least. Wish me luck!
The second goal that has continued for the most part is over-hauling my skincare routine. If you’ve seen this video on my channel you will know that this year I’m on the quest for better skin and sticking to a good skincare routine is my main focus. I’m now a few months in to proper skin cleansing, toning, serum-ing, moisturising and SPF-ing and while my skin hasn’t quite cleared up it definitely feels a whole lot smoother and hopefully will be looking a whole lot younger ten years from now! If you want to see my full morning skincare routine you can find it here on my channel.
Next on my hit-list is to perfect my evening skincare routine and add some retinol into my life. By the end of the year I should have this skincare thing nailed!
Overall I think the realisation that I’m in my late twenties now has hit me this year and that I really can’t wing it and rest on my teenage and early twenties luck. 2018 is most certainly my year of starting to look after myself a little better and fingers crossed it’s onwards and upwards from here. Who knows, maybe in 2019 I’ll be living that 2 litres of water and 5 fruits and veg a day life!
