I mentioned in a previous post that I’m not that great at finishing sewing projects. Well, I’ve finally finished something!
Dress – Made by me!
Shoes – Miss Selfridge
Watch – Swatch
I started this dress around 2 years ago. I chose a pattern I liked the look of and fabric I thought would look good in the style of the dress and set off sewing. However I hit a bump in the road when I got to sewing the collar and the front facing. Neither me, my mum or my nan (who have both been sewing for years) could understand what the pattern was describing for me to do. Disheartened I just gave up on it and shoved it in a bag and forgot about it. Since then my nan always says to me when I talk about sewing ‘Whatever happened to that yellow dress??’, I just tell her it was lost somewhere! But recently my mum and I went through our big bag of fabric and lurking in the bottom was this dress and I decided it just had to be finished, I couldn’t go on just avoiding it. So with A LOT of help from my mum figuring out where I needed to sew the dress was finally finished! The original pattern was a lot longer, at almost ankle length on me, but I knew I would never wear it at that length, despite some protesting from my mum about cutting it short I gave it the chop. And here we are, my first proper sewing project outside of school, college and uni. I’m so proud of it, there really is nothing like the feeling of seeing something made completely by your own hands. My sewing bug is well and truly back and here to stay, now just what to sew next!
